Workshop Description:
New to gel printing—or ready to use a Gelli plate that has been collecting dust? This full-day workshop offers a playful introduction to Gelli-plate monoprinting.
Create rich, grungy layers with acrylic paint while letting go of perfection. Use the printed textures for holiday cards, mixed media, collage, or to refresh old journal pages and artwork.
Workshop Goals:
• Explore monoprinting through experimentation and play.
• Create a stack of custom collage papers and learn ways to use them.
• Complete a handmade holiday card and begin a handmade zine.
Supply List: Provided by Instructor:
• 5×7 Gelli plates and rubber brayers for class use
• Brown craft paper for the zine
• Shared mark-making tools, stencils, stamps, extra printing papers, and sample acrylic paints
For Participants to Bring:
• Acrylic paint: Bring 3–5 warm or cool colors plus a neutral. Craft, student, fine-art, liquid acrylic, and acrylic ink work; all paint must be acrylic-based.
• Papers: Bring assorted copy, drawing, watercolor, book, sheet-music, collage, or deli papers. Avoid glossy or very delicate paper.
• Tools: Scissors and a glue stick or gel medium.
• Optional: Your own Gelli plate and brayer; old journals or artwork; cardstock; safe mark-making textures; drawing tools; acrylic markers; craft knife; bone folder; tape; ruler; or hair dryer.
• Come ready to experiment and embrace mistakes, layers, and “beautiful grunge.”
