About this event
Shorts Package: Mirrors
Playing Saturday, November 14 at 2:10pm. Includes a post-film Q&A with filmmakers.
Shorts included in this program include:
What We Call Home - 15min - Dir. Josiah Mendoza - USA/Kingdom of Hawai'i - 2026
On the outskirts of paradise, a family in a self-governed, houseless community search for the meaning of home amidst government removal off of their land.
Mega Foundry - 10min - Dir. Yixin ZHANG - United States/China - 2024
Mega Foundry explores humanity’s obsession with material progress, revealing contradictions within technological advancement. Our creations are more than mere tools; they shape reality and dictate our thoughts and values. Innovation fuels cycles of consumption, leaving humans enslaved by their own inventions and lost in excess.
How the West Was Fun - 15min - Dir. Sue Ding, Sarah Garrahan - USA - 2025
At a Wild West theme park, visitors attend stunt shows, pan for gold, and try their luck at the shooting gallery. An old time photo studio invites them to go one step further—to dress up in the regalia of the Old West and step into the boots of its most iconic characters. Cowboys, bandits, and saloon girls of all ages pose for the camera and reflect on the allure of “simpler times." HOW THE WEST WAS FUN explores romanticized nostalgia for the American frontier and the enduring appeal of the Wild West—an entertaining and revealing lens into contemporary American identity.
Mountain Meditation 2 - 5min - Dir.Marc Billard - USA - 2026
The source material is Colorado car rides and hikes in the mountains, which I record using a mobile phone camera and/or Insta360 camera attached to the car window or mounted on the roof. I then transform the imagery in production, and add an original soundtrack. No AI!
JOHN SHEARER: American Moments - 28min - Dir. James Spione - USA - 2026
A groundbreaking Black photographer reflects on his career inside the country’s most influential publications during the height of America’s pictorial magazine era, when his vivid images—from the deaths of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. to the Attica uprising— helped define how the nation saw itself.
