- ➤ Since October, nearly 2,500 Coloradans were hospitalized with the flu as holiday gatherings spurred record numbers, including 791 cases during Christmas week. Doctors say the new strain lasts longer and strains hospital staffing, yet the vaccine still reduces illness severity+ prevents many hospital admissions. Denver7
