COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Wheat Ridge Regional Center, Blooming Sweets uses a candy bouquet program to help residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn work skills. Led by Carla Juarez, the program prepared over 70 Valentine’s arrangements for a Broomfield arts nonprofit and will offer more bouquets for other holidays.  Denver7
  • On Feb. 8, 2026, visitors at Luvin’ Arms Animal Sanctuary in Erie enjoyed a free kissing booth with Maybell, an 11-year-old Jersey cow known for her gentle nature—offering a unique way for families to bond with animals on Super Bowl Sunday.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Frisco Bay Marina closed its docks and public boat ramps for summer as Dillon Reservoir's water levels fell to a critical low due to record-low snowpack. The marina will shift operations to offer paddleboard rentals and add dry storage for boats while Denver Water warns that restrictions may soon affect customers.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • 115 students from a local advocacy group rallied at the Colorado Capitol’s West Foyer on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to support House Bill 1144—a measure to ban private 3D printing of gun parts. Lawmakers say updated rules are needed to keep pace with advances in 3D printing technology.  Colorado Public Radio
  • State Sen. Cathy Kipp and Rep. Kyle Brown introduced a bill on Wednesday that would require new data centers to cover their annual electricity usage with renewable energy starting in 2031. The proposal aims to shield neighbors from rising energy bills and support climate goals amid competing tax incentives.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Colorado lawmakers are considering the Tamale Act to let home chefs sell refrigerated items like buttercream and tamales under updated cottage food rules. The proposal aims to boost revenue for small businesses while adding food safety measures and has not yet been scheduled for its first committee hearing.  Sentinel Colorado

  • Colorado skier Mikaela Shiffrin posted on Instagram Wednesday to share her experience after a poor performance in Tuesday's team combined at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics — she said social media criticism and high expectations have added pressure to her challenging journey while she focuses on upcoming events.  Colorado Public Radio
