Good morning, Denver. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 11th of March.
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Vail Resorts lowered its earnings forecast after low snowfall cut visitor numbers nearly 12 percent and reduced acreage at its resorts (70 to 80 percent was open at the end of February). The company will offer skiers (ages 13 to 30) a 20 percent discount on next winter’s Epic Pass. Colorado Public Radio
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Colorado's job market shrank 0.6% in Q3 2025 while Denver fell 1.4% compared to last year, according to federal data. Revised unemployment insurance reports may record roughly 5,000 fewer jobs for the year if trends continue + officials note weakness in key sectors. Colorado Public Radio
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cross-country ski areas are hit by a record snow drought that forced staff at Eldora Nordic Center near Boulder to use snow farming techniques (clearing rocks and building snow fences) to keep trails rideable until mid-morning. Dedicated skiers remain hopeful that better conditions will return next winter. Colorado Public Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Energy Secretary Chris Wright visited an Xcel Energy plant in Weld County on Monday, Mar. 9, noting that gas prices in Denver surged over 50 cents in a week due to a global supply crunch. He said keeping older coal plants open saved lives (federal plans include releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease costs). Colorado Public Radio
- ➤ Thornton City Council approved tighter drought restrictions Tuesday after a record dry winter. Outdoor watering is banned until May 1 and large water users must reduce consumption by 10%+ officials say the measure secures enough water for households and wildfire preparedness. Denver7

Rick Taggert, the Motus Theater event highlighted the need for improved support (including education and behavioral health). Colorado Public Radio
