- ➤ Firefighters responded in Aurora to a grass fire that ignited at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday near the 2200 block Himalaya Road; campers cooking at a local encampment accidentally started the blaze that burned 8.5 acres before it was contained by 1 p.m. Sentinel Colorado
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Colorado lawmakers are considering House Bill 1148 that would impose a 5% fee on loot box transactions in online games (including Roblox and Minecraft) to generate over $20M for public schools. Colorado Public Radio
- ➤ Boulder Valley School District turned on irrigation in February as a dry winter and low snowmelt have driven up water use and costs 73%. The district will update its Sustainability Plan this spring with more recycled water and leak detection (steps to manage the drought). Denver7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Colorado State Patrol is launching a seatbelt campaign aimed at young drivers to boost safety. The Sound that Saves campaign will run April through August on digital platforms + music streaming to encourage better seatbelt use during spring break. Denver7
- ➤ Colorado's state board voted to delay a decision on a USDA waiver that would restrict SNAP benefits from buying sugary drinks amid debate over health and personal choice. The move affects 600,000 recipients and will be reviewed at a later meeting. Colorado Public Radio
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A Weld County resident who was unvaccinated has been confirmed as Colorado’s 12th measles case after a recent visit to an out-of-state outbreak area and was briefly hospitalized. Health officials say the case is not linked to the Broomfield outbreak and urge those exposed to get vaccinated promptly. Colorado Public Radio
