COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Denver installed James R. Golka as its sixth Catholic archbishop on March 25 at CoBank Arena with more than 4,000 attendees and 300 clergy, and his celebration continues today with a Mass at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • The America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission has launched a Historic Marker Program that lets residents nominate local sites for up to 150 new markers to celebrate hidden histories. Proposals are due April 15, 2026, with installations scheduled to begin later this year.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado water managers are acting early to tackle summer water shortages as low snowpack prompts Stage 1 drought restrictions in Thornton and nearby areas—officials warn that if dry conditions persist, stricter measures may follow.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver7 is tracking how a warm, dry winter and low snowpack are impacting local water use, and residents are invited to share their concerns as potential restrictions unfold in the community.  Denver7
  • Unusually warm 90-degree weather is prompting rattlesnakes to leave hibernation early along the Front Range, and experts advise hikers to stay aware and prepared (mark bites to track swelling for prompt treatment).  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aurora lawmakers tentatively approved Stage 1 drought restrictions to limit outdoor watering and filling backyard pools (pending a final vote on April 6 with an effective start on April 7). The measures will be enforced with metering and fines as the city faces worsening drought and low reservoir levels.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Colorado lawmakers advanced a bipartisan bill on Tuesday to create an ibogaine research pilot program to study its safety and effectiveness in treating mental health and substance use disorders (House Bill 26-1325), with five pilot sites to be selected by Colorado’s Behavioral Health Administration.  Denver7
  • CDOT is using $12 million in unused snowplow funds to triple wildfire mitigation efforts across several counties, including Jefferson and Garfield (Highway 72 in Coal Creek Canyon is top of the list). Crews will start work in mid-April to clear trees near roads in high burn risk areas.  Denver7

  • HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s Hospital has opened a teen lounge inspired by late patient Ryan Austin’s vision. The new space offers video games, puzzles, movies + a putting green in his honor and gives adolescents a place to feel at home during treatment.  Denver7
