COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A study shows youth violence in Park Hill dropped 75% over five years through community efforts led by Park Hill Strong; however, CDC funding ended in April 2025 and the program now faces a shutdown unless new donations are raised (community leaders are urging support).  Denver7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community College of Aurora was recognized with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge’s highest designation for nonpartisan voter engagement (after a decade of promoting civic participation). The college’s plan includes hosting registration drives and establishing a ballot drop-off location at Centennial Campus (a new effort in its civic learning initiative).  Sentinel Colorado

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aurora-based Sentinel Colorado announced that award-winning journalist McKenna Harford will join its newsroom on April 13 to report on local governments and community issues. Editor Dave Perry (Sentinel) said her reliable local reporting will help cut through confusing messaging.  Sentinel Colorado
  • On March 19, the state approved two well permits for a potential Buc-ee’s Travel Center near Monument Hill adjacent to I-25 (one for the Denver Aquifer and one for the Arapahoe Aquifer) which could pump over 11 million gallons a year. Local residents have raised concerns about the impact on groundwater.  Colorado Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Colorado Rockies Opening Day draws tens of thousands downtown today; parking at Coors Field opens at 9 a.m. and the field will light up at 2 p.m. with fan giveaways, F-16 flyovers, fireworks, and live DJ beats at McGregor Square — heavy traffic is expected on surrounding streets.  Colorado Public Radio
