COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers of America Colorado Navigation Center reopened on Friday in Lakewood after renovations, expanding homelessness services to serve about 100 guests 24/7. The improved center now features more hygiene facilities, sleeping areas, and case management — including three daily meals.  Denver7
  • Brothers Redevelopment Inc. is funding essential home repairs to keep seniors like Ruth King in Commerce City in their familiar homes, covering costs for a furnace, A/C, electrical panel and roof. The nonprofit works with local municipalities to help maintain community independence.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Seven Colorado ski resorts including Eldora and Crested Butte will close for the season Sunday as drought conditions limit snowfall needed for extended operation; officials noted high visitation amid tough weather (with over 21 percent of the state affected).  Denver7
  • Data released Thursday shows nearly 25% of Colorado, including Aspen, Vail, and Steamboat, is now under 'exceptional drought' conditions. Denver-area water districts have reimposed water restrictions amid record-low snowpack and a record unseasonably warm winter.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 200 Colorado National Guard soldiers will deploy to the Middle East to support a peacekeeping mission between Egypt and Israel by conducting reconnaissance patrols and base operations for the Multinational Force and Observers. A departure ceremony was held Friday morning in Denver (unit from Fort Carson).  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The unusually warm winter has led to an early and severe allergy season in Denver, with 25% of adults reporting symptoms and local allergists advising residents to reduce exposure (such as keeping windows closed and showering daily).  Denver7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Colorado Rockies fans gathered downtown for Opening Day with a focus on celebrating memorable moments even though the team lost 10 to 1 to the Phillies. The event featured families marking milestones (such as a new dad sharing his son's first game experience).  Denver7
  • On Tuesday night, LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s career wins total during a 127-113 victory over the Cavaliers, and both the Lakers and Nuggets clinched playoff spots. He needs 29 more regular-season wins to tie the record while leading in playoff wins as well.  Sentinel Colorado
