COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Westminster's first Westy Restaurant Week kicked off on April 17 and runs through April 26, with nearly 40 local restaurants offering special menus to support family-run businesses + diners can access digital passport rewards online.  Denver7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Colorado’s first drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A opened on Thursday, Apr. 16 in Denver at 9111 E 40th Ave. The restaurant was designed for speed and efficiency (offering a walk-up window and outdoor patio seating) as drive-thru trends continue to grow.  Denver7
  • Xcel Energy said it will spend about $4.6 million to repair the Comanche 3 coal plant (off-line since August 2025) to meet summer power demands. The plant is expected to restart by mid-July after the utility released previously confidential repair details.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Evergreen Music and Performing Arts is running the Lullaby Project Evergreen to let families work with local musicians on personalized songs in support of early childhood and maternal mental health. Families (regardless of musical experience) can sign up until month-end, and the project (a free concert) will conclude on June 13.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the Colorado School of Mines pulled an ore cart from Lakewood to Denver's Sculpture Park on Friday during the three-day E-days engineering celebration, honoring the school’s mining heritage and offering a break from heavy coursework. A sophomore even played piano along the route.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flights from Airborne Snow Observations measured Colorado’s record-low snowpack this spring as early melt forced water managers to shift their survey schedule. The LiDAR planes covered 16 watersheds and completed 18 surveys in one week (March) to help planners adjust reservoir operations.  Denver7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jefferson County Public Health is now offering sliding scale, scalpel-free vasectomies each Friday at its Lakewood clinic (645 Parfet St). The clinic plans to serve about 10 patients weekly and use funds raised to support its broader reproductive health programs.  Colorado Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The U.S. Women’s National Team played in Commerce City on Friday, April 17, drawing fans from across the country and sparking local excitement. Forward Sophia Wilson, who grew up in Windsor, said the match highlighted growing support for women's soccer as local businesses celebrated community connections.  Denver7
