  • Columbine High School students broke participation records for their 10th annual Day of Service on Monday by joining 60 outreach projects across metro Denver. Over 1,167 students volunteered to support local organizations and first responders.  Denver7
  • 94-year-old Denver resident Cherie Eickstaedt, who has battled cancer twice and recovered from a recent stroke, continues knitting hundreds of hats each year to keep local students warm during winter+ community members donate yarn to support her decade-long effort.  Denver7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A report from the Common Sense Institute shows Colorado's domestic migration, once among the nation's highest, dropped to 44th in 2024 — a low birth rate is expected to lead to worker shortages and a slower economy amid job losses last year.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers advanced Senate Bill 23 (the School Finance Act) on Monday, raising state spending by $438 per student to reach $12,314 for K-12 education. The bill must pass the Senate before May 13 and then receive the governor’s signature.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Colorado’s two largest universities approved budget plans that include tuition hikes near the 3.5% cap to help manage a tough state budget—CU raised tuition modestly with salary adjustments while CSU planned tuition increases and strategic layoffs to cover a $55 million gap.  Colorado Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Colorado Avalanche and other teams are set to chase 2-0 leads in Stanley Cup playoff games tonight. The Avalanche face the Kings at 10 p.m. with players engaged in hard-hitting, physical play — officials already fined players for rough actions earlier this week.  Colorado Public Radio
