- ➤ Governor Polis supports a bill moving the shutdown of Colorado Springs Utilities’ coal plant from 2029 to 2032 as a compromise to meet emissions targets; the bill, introduced Tuesday and advanced by an 8 to 1 vote, gives CSU more time to build renewables (and avoid steep rate hikes). - ➤ Denver disability rights advocate Kalyn Heffernan said RTD used her decade-old photo on a bus without permission — a move that deepens her concerns about a potential 20% transit service cut — and she plans to discuss the issue with agency officials later today. Denver7
- ➤ Lawmakers on Monday introduced Senate Bill 180, which aims to reduce childcare waitlists for over 9,000 low-income families by creating a state investment authority to boost revenue. The bill will be heard in the Senate Finance Committee today. Sentinel Colorado
- ➤ Historic Denver submitted a nomination to designate the home of Wilma Webb and former Mayor Wellington Webb as a landmark (it will be reviewed on May 5 by the Landmark Preservation Commission and on June 22 by city council). Denver7
- ➤ Denver City Council approved Veo’s three-year contract Monday night. Residents will see up to 9,000 Veo scooters and e bikes on streets starting May 1, with lower rates and 60 minute free rides for low income riders + the installation of 150 new parking corrals to boost safety and accessibility. - ➤ AdventHealth Littleton relaunched its Forensic Nurse Examiner Program on Wednesday to offer 24/7 trauma-informed care and evidence collection for survivors of violence. The hospital upgraded the exam room with soothing touches (aromatherapy, home décor, calm lighting) to help ease patients during difficult exams. Denver7
- ➤ Warmer weather and a mild winter mean ticks are active earlier than usual, says the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) which blames the wet spring for an increased tick population.
