  • Dress for Success Denver (marking its 20th year) offers professional clothing and coaching via its Butterfly Bus to help women prepare for work; volunteer Abbie Hayutin was honored as this week's Denver7 Everyday Hero for guiding women toward career success.  Denver7
  • Support, Inc. doubled its day program capacity at its Aurora facility by renovating the first floor to serve up to 40 participants. The upgraded space features a pool table, air hockey table, and sensory room and comes with new leadership to meet rising demand.  Sentinel Colorado

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A U-Haul truck hit one of Jason Alfonso's restaurants at about 4 p.m. Sunday, sending the vehicle 10 feet into the building and causing an estimated $100,000+ in damage; he said repairs might take six to eight weeks while he plans to reopen Odyssey within three to four weeks.  Denver7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Adventure West will open its tubing service on Memorial Day as it adjusts its float route along Clear Creek due to low water levels of 55% normal amid Stage 1 Drought restrictions. The business plans to welcome more swimmers by adapting its operations safely.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Lakewood dance and arts studio has launched a GoFundMe to raise $65,000 needed for two years of property taxes and insurance; the effort supports local artists, dancers and community groups to continue using its affordable space.  Denver7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Spirit Airlines shut down over the weekend (the carrier has not flown from Denver International since 2024), which experts say could reduce competition and drive up fares for some local travelers.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado lawmakers are discussing state protections for the threatened lesser prairie chicken as ranchers and conservationists urge measures to preserve dwindling prairie habitat. The talks will continue in southeastern Colorado amid renewable energy development and ongoing habitat loss.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since May 1, out-of-state vehicles pay a new $15 daily fee at Colorado state parks as set by the Parks and Wildlife Commission to help with park maintenance, and select parks will add an extra $2 fee starting this summer.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Englewood remains the only south metro city using voluntary water restrictions while nearby communities have imposed mandatory limits. City officials said Englewood relies on the Platte River (providing a strong water supply) and will monitor usage into the summer before any further changes.  Denver7

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Denver metro home values dropped 2.2% in February compared to last year, giving buyers more negotiating power and forcing sellers to offer concessions (about $5K to $10K) as the market cools after years of rapid gains.  Denver7
  • A Gallup poll finds that only 25% of non-homeowners expect to buy a home within five years, a record low since 2013. In Denver, home prices hover near $575,000, which may lead younger buyers to delay their purchases.  Denver7
