BUSINESS NEWS

  • Times Media Group acquired 21 local newspapers from the National Trust for Local News on May 13, splitting a 28-paper chain into two groups. Officials said both companies offered positions to staff and that the sale terms were not disclosed — officials expect the move to strengthen local journalism.  Sentinel Colorado

CRIME NEWS

  • Aurora man Tory Conyers—46—convicted earlier this year for a deadly hit-and-run in Parker on Aug. 21st, 2023, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after he hit 51-year-old pedestrian Jossy Fernando Pinto following a Walmart shoplifting incident, police said.  Denver7
  • A deputy (Nicholas Caines) from Arapahoe County was arrested on May 3 in Elbert County on charges of alleged harassment and tampering and suspended without pay while in custody, with a $2,000 bond posted on May 5 and a temporary restraining order issued on May 1 as part of an ongoing internal investigation.  Denver7
  • A 13-year-old girl last seen in Center near Washington Way and W. 4th St at around 2 p.m. on Sunday was reported missing and Colorado Bureau of Investigation officials said she could be in danger.  Denver7
  • Denver police arrested Carlos Lujan on Friday in connection with a quadruple shooting at 19th and Market on May 4—four victims, three men and one woman, were wounded and are expected to recover.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Jared Polis signed HB25-1281, which will allow kei trucks and cars on Colorado roads beginning in July 2027, and the law requires that these vehicles be 25 years old, titled, and registered along with a speed limit of 55 mph—ensuring they remain off interstates for safety.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver consumer protection lawyer David Seligman announced his candidacy for state attorney general on Tuesday. He runs a legal advocacy firm that has led national class action lawsuits against rideshare companies, landlords, and Amazon—he said his legal work inspired him to run for office.  Colorado Public Radio
