  • David Muller celebrated his 90th birthday today with his hiking group the Seekers — a community he built over 30 years ago that meets every Monday and Friday on Colorado trails.  Denver7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 19, at least four tornadoes touched down on the Eastern Plains near Bennet and Elizabeth (damaging 17 structures in Adams County including six homes) and 19 homes in Elbert County (with no injuries reported) as crews worked to restore power and assessors prepared a preliminary damage report.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Colorado residents on the eastern plains began cleanup after tornadoes struck Sunday, damaging dozens of homes in Adams and Elbert Counties—no injuries were reported during the storm recovery efforts.  Denver7

CRIME NEWS

  • Aurora police are looking for two suspects—Hee Dah Weh and Latrayvon Dashen Bullard—wanted for first degree murder in connection with a triple shooting at Market Square parking lot on May 14 that left 43 year old James Michael Young dead, a 36 year old man in life threatening condition and a 46 year old woman seriously injured.  Denver7
  • Aurora police are investigating after a homeowner shot a man who reportedly broke into a detached garage early Monday morning on N. Moline St. at E. 12th Ave. — the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Conservatory of Dance, a school that has served over 9,000 people every year for more than 30 years, is facing financial trouble after enrollment dropped by 30%—likely due to the pandemic. The nonprofit will launch a campaign with a 5K race on June 14 and aims to raise $150,000 by the end of July to keep its doors open.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said today he opposes a Department of Homeland Security plan to use 20,000 National Guard members for federal immigration enforcement — his office warned that diverting these troops from state roles would weaken public safety while urging Congress to pass border reforms.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Denver City Council delayed its vote on an $800 million expansion of the National Western Center to June 2 to give more time to work out funding and community concerns—this project will add a new equestrian center and a 160-room hotel that aims to boost tourism and honor local heritage.  Denver7
