  • Aurora’s January Point in Time Count showed a 72% increase in sheltered homelessness and a 24% drop in unsheltered numbers as new navigation centers boosted shelter options—city officials noted no unsheltered families and lower veteran and youth counts.  Sentinel Colorado
  • On May 15, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce held its 50th Armed Forces Recognition Luncheon at the DoubleTree Hotel, honoring military service members and civilian advocates (including representatives from Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Coast Guard, and Space Force) with commemorative bricks to celebrate leadership and community support.  Sentinel Colorado

  • In Denver, families and providers face a broken childcare system that forces parents to choose between work and care. High costs and long waitlists have led to closures plus calls for additional funding to stabilize essential services.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Gas prices in Colorado are nearing record highs at $4.78 a gallon ahead of Memorial Day weekend + AAA Colorado advises budgeting for fuel as rising oil costs from regional conflict may keep prices elevated throughout the busy summer travel season.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Denver plans to pilot a thermal network that heats and cools city-owned buildings using water-source heat pumps & geothermal plus wastewater heat, starting with two pilot buildings in about two years and expanding by 2030 to cut fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Trail Ridge Road will likely remain closed due to heavy snow that dropped over a foot at Rainbow Curve on Tuesday — officials say additional snow is forecast for Rocky Mountain National Park, leaving the reopening date uncertain.  Denver7
