CRIME NEWS

  • Teak Ty Brockbank pleaded guilty to making online threats against Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Arizona official Katie Hobbs, and other officials and was sentenced on Thursday to three years in prison - he apologized in court for his ugly posts and said he has turned away from extremist online views.  Sentinel Colorado
  • A Denver man, Zachary Robert Rodrick Jones, 36, pleaded guilty to a post office burglary and related crimes—he was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison.  Denver7
  • Colorado man Brockbank pleaded guilty in October to making online threats against election officials and now faces sentencing Thursday while his lawyer called him a 'keyboard warrior' influenced by heavy drinking and extremist content—prosecutors, however, recommend a three-year prison term to deter similar threats.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Colorado man Teak Ty Brockbank, who has been in jail since August 2024 for online threats against election officials, asked for leniency at court as he faced sentencing Thursday—his lawyer said heavy drinking and extremist content drove his actions.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Colorado Children’s Campaign released the 2025 Kids Count data book that shows growth in early childhood education and improvements in youth mental health while also revealing a 28% jump in children experiencing homelessness and low K–12 test scores. Data from the report — including a nearly 60,000 rise in Child Health Plan Plus enrollment and escalating child care costs in Denver — will be used by lawmakers to guide future funding decisions.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver Public Schools have installed air conditioning in several schools so many students experienced cooler classrooms for the first time this year plus officials say the new systems reduced behavior issues and half-day closures. A bond proposal allowed the work to be done during summer so classes will run every day until the last day on June 3.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal immigration officers detained a mother, father, and child after they checked in at Denver Immigration Court Thursday morning and received a dismissal order that would have let them remain until further proceedings—agents then escorted the family toward an out-of-state detention center—and immigrant rights advocates say the move may chill due process.  Colorado Public Radio
  • This summer, the Colorado Department of Transportation will partner with local driving schools to warn parents and teens about the dangers of driving while high—CDOT warns that crash rates will be 20% higher during the busy season and reports that teen DUI crashes with suspected marijuana use have already resulted in serious injuries. This campaign aims to educate drivers about the risks of mixing cannabis with driving.  Denver7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gabrielle Diecidue, whose best friend was murdered in June 2020, has partnered with a nonprofit to launch a National Violence Prevention Hotline that will offer mental health support & emergency help starting the first week of June and will operate on limited hours due to funding constraints.  Denver7
