CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A federal judge on Wednesday stopped the deportation of the wife and five children of Egyptian man Mohamed Sabry Soliman—charged with a firebomb attack in Boulder during a protest—as his family remains in federal custody while he faces hate crime and attempted murder charges. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Denver Public Schools asked a federal court to dismiss two lawsuits filed by former deans injured in a March 2023 shooting at East High. The deans claim that weak safety policies allowed the incident—DPS argues that its measures, including daily searches, mitigated the risk. Sentinel Colorado
- ➤ At Cherry Creek Innovation Campus, nearly 40 high school students are building a Habitat for Humanity double-wide home for a Berthoud family under the guidance of instructors Jim Dosky and Mike Degitis. - ➤ Aurora’s Burrell Arts Campus has been nationally recognized with the 2025 New and Emerging School Award from the Arts Schools Network for its early innovative achievements in arts education. - ➤ APS educators ratified a union contract that raises eligible teachers’ pay by an average of 5.01% and all district staff pay by 2.7%—the district board will vote on the agreement on June 17 to finalize the changes. - ➤ Gov. Polis signed a law Tuesday that creates a new board under the Colorado Attorney General’s Office to review the backlog of rape kits and improve testing turnaround times. The law sets a 60-day goal for crime labs — and requires law enforcement to notify victims every three months while the CBI will report monthly progress to the General Assembly. Denver7
