CRIME NEWS

  • The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has issued a missing person alert for Ray Mattson, a 71-year-old man with cognitive impairment who was last seen walking in a Lafayette neighborhood off N. 111th St.—he needs his medications and anyone with information is asked to call 911.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists say an untold number of miller moths hatched in the Great Plains will soon fly through Denver on their way to the Rocky Mountains — with some residents likely to kill them while others value them as nighttime pollinators and food for local wildlife. The moths, traveling over 100 miles from crops to the Rockies by following the moon’s light, are expected to migrate for several weeks.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Denver is proposing changes to its career service rules that would allow layoffs based on merit as the city works to address a $250 million budget deficit. The proposed rule change will be discussed at a public hearing on June 18 at 9:00 a.m. (comments are due by 12:00 p.m. on June 13).  Denver7
  • Rep. Crow is introducing a bill that would repeal the federal law shielding the gun industry so that survivors and families may sue for negligence — he said the proposal would create a legal path for victims of gun violence. Supporters including advocacy groups and other lawmakers back the measure, while gun lobbyists argue it could spur extensive legal challenges.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Multiple viewers reported a large pothole on eastbound I-70 at the Morrison and Golden exit on Friday that left cars with flat tires. CDOT said crews responded quickly—closing two lanes and detouring drivers to US Highway 40 while carrying out repairs as part of the I-70 resurfacing project.  Denver7
  • A federal judge ruled Thursday that Colorado’s law requiring gun buyers to be at least 21 stays in effect after Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and two young purchasers challenged it—affirming the governor’s efforts to reduce gun violence. The decision follows an appeal that lifted a temporary injunction and found no constitutional violation in the law.  Colorado Public Radio
