COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since immigrant rights activist Jeanette Vizguerra was arrested in March, demonstrators have gathered weekly outside Aurora's ICE Detention Facility to demand the release of detained immigrants (local residents with family members at risk of deportation are among them). On Monday, over 100 protestors marched from a nearby park to show solidarity with anti-ICE protests in LA and support for those detained.  Denver7

CRIME NEWS

  • Denver police arrested a 26-year-old man identified as Victor Rubio Pinerez who allegedly shot an acquaintance in Platt Park on June 6 at about 5:24 a.m.—the victim was shot in the leg, taken to the hospital, and is expected to survive.  Denver7
  • Former Littleton funeral director Miles Harford was sentenced on Monday to 18 months in prison for abuse of a corpse and theft after he kept multiple boxes of cremated remains and stored Christina Rosales' remains in a hearse for two years—actions that violated his professional and moral duties.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mike Lindell testified in Denver federal court on Monday during his defamation trial and stuck by his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, accusing former Dominion official Eric Coomer of playing a part in a major coverup—claims that have led to significant financial loss for him. He said he was a victim of lawfare and maintained his reputation was targeted by those he accused.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Denver’s new Point-in-Time Count report released Monday showed overall homelessness rose to 10,774—a more than 7% increase from last year—while emergency shelter use climbed from 7,058 in 2024 to 8,625 in 2025 and veteran homelessness dropped 30% over four years; the report also revealed that the number of homeless families increased by 150% since 2022.  Denver7
  • Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen resigned on Monday to become president and CEO of the American Excellence Foundation — he said his service in Colorado was an honor. A vacancy committee will soon choose his replacement as he transitions to the private sector.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Aurora lawmakers approved a measure in May that will let the city step in to manage derelict properties by appointing a receiver if owners have ignored health and safety codes for six months & put neighbors at risk. Officials said the new ordinance will be used only in extreme cases and will require owners to present a detailed plan to fix their properties before the city intervenes.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Governor Jared Polis has delayed following an ICE subpoena for the personal details of 35 sponsors of unaccompanied minors until June 23 after Director Scott Moss filed a whistleblower lawsuit stating that the move would break state law—Polis' lawyers said the delay risks penalties from Homeland Security and a court hearing will decide the next steps.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aurora officials will install naloxone vending machines using more than $3.4 million from opioid settlement funds to help reverse overdoses—some lawmakers worry the machines might encourage drug use. Experts say easier access to naloxone and better education are key to reducing overdose deaths.  Sentinel Colorado
