GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado lawmakers face a projected $700 million gap next fiscal year if current spending plans are maintained, as an extra $150 million may be wiped out by rising commitments including education, law enforcement, and senior property tax breaks—officials warned that a GOP federal measure and a slowing economy could deepen the shortfall.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver Airport officials plan to open a drop-in child care center in 2026 that will care for up to 20 children. • Loveland Pass reopened Wednesday afternoon after a landslide closed it Sunday morning—CDOT crews removed 92 tons of mud and silt from a slide estimated to be 100 feet wide and 20 feet deep.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Governor Jared Polis announced that he pardoned individuals convicted of psilocybin and psilocin possession during a Denver Psychedelic Science conference, stating the pardon applies only to adults 21 or older — a move that follows his 2020 mass pardon for cannabis convictions. • Denver city leaders are planning substantial layoffs to cut a projected $50 million deficit this year and $200 million next year, said Mayor Mike Johnston.
