  • A housing program that helped Coloradans rebuild their lives is shutting down this month due to a funding shortage—residents have until July 18 to find new housing as Mental Health Colorado works to connect them with other options.  Denver7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A child was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries after falling six stories from a hotel-turned-shelter—known as The Tamarac Family Shelter and managed by The Salvation Army—on East Hampden Ave in Denver on Monday around 2:15 p.m. and was reported to be awake and responsive before being transported to Children's Hospital Colorado for evaluation.  Denver7

CRIME NEWS

  • A 60-year-old Aurora man called police at 11:30 p.m. Sunday from a bus stop (900 block of South Ivory Circle near his apartment) to report he fatally shot his common-law wife at 9:30 a.m. the previous day, and officers later found a firearm and the 61-year-old woman deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside their apartment.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Denver authorities sentenced Javon Price to life in prison—adding 16 years for assault—for fatally shooting concession worker Gregory Hopkins at Coors Field in August 2021 after a Rockies game.  Denver7

  • Philip Bailey, a Denver native and East High School graduate, told Colorado Matters about his early start with Earth, Wind & Fire and how joining the band in Los Angeles began their long journey to success — he recalled his simple beginnings and lasting ties to home.   • At Fan Expo Denver on July 5 at the Colorado Convention Center, thousands of fans gathered to display creative costumes and buy new merchandise. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado school districts face cuts in key programs after nearly $70 million in federal education funds was withheld. Officials warn that if the funds do not arrive soon, schools may reduce after-school, dual language, and teacher training programs, which puts vulnerable students and their families at risk.  Sentinel Colorado

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new state rule went into effect on June 1, banning government and contractor use of small gas-powered lawn equipment during the summer ozone season, and Designscapes Colorado began switching to electric tools. The state is using education instead of fines and will consider stricter measures in November—putting pressure on operators to adjust their practices.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday around 12:30 p.m. the CPW Commission held a virtual meeting to discuss the Copper Creek Pack in Pitkin County—declaring that CPW will not be directed to act, as the commission said this falls outside its role.  Denver7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nearly half of the cannabis flower products tested in Colorado had THC levels misreported by at least 15% according to a CU Boulder study—277 samples were gathered from 52 stores between November 2022 and October 2023. Colorado’s Marijuana Enforcement Division said it is reviewing the study’s findings—experts note that testing inconsistencies may affect consumer choices.  Colorado Public Radio
