- ➤ On June 7, Charlene Kirby, a 75-year-old former first responder, crawled 14 hours across rural Colorado after her side-by-side jackknifed during a debris move and left her with a broken femur—she later underwent surgery on June 9 before returning home on July 3 in time for her grandson’s wedding. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Aurora and area police arrested 16 suspects—including nine juveniles—as part of a yearlong investigation by the Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network that linked them to at least 16 violent incidents and multiple gun-related crimes, with charges including attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal firearm possession, and organized crime violations presented in Denver district court. - ➤ In January, crews drilling test holes under the Denver Museum of Nature and Science parking lot uncovered a partial dinosaur bone fossil from a plant-eating dinosaur that may be like the Thescelosaurus. The fossil is the deepest and oldest found in Denver and the museum is exploring deep underground heat to help power its energy system—this discovery adds to its growing collection. - ➤ Today, local artist Keisha Makonese will show about 50 original works at the Colorado Black Arts Festival on the west side of City Park; she will display mixed-media pieces—including ballerinas, abstract paintings and wire earrings—in a cooled 10x20 booth as the free event features food vendors, music, Nigerian drumming and a Black-owned marketplace through Sunday. - ➤ Town officials in Nederland announced today that they are buying Eldora Mountain Resort—POWDR will keep control for a two-year transition period while the town plans to fund the estimated $100 million purchase with revenue bonds. Around 700 resort workers will become town employees—local residents are cautiously optimistic as the deal may close as soon as October. Denver7
