ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • John Elway will not be charged after his partner and former agent, Jeffrey Sperbeck, died when he fell from a golf cart on April 26 at The Madison Club in La Quinta, with investigators ruling the death accidental—Elway said he felt profound sadness over the loss.  Sentinel Colorado

  • A Denver jury convicted Pa Reh of first-degree murder and attempted murder for fatally shooting community activist Ma Kaing at Hidden Brook Apartments in Aurora on July 15—family members later called for changes to improve the 911 response.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 20th anniversary Fields Wolfe Memorial Gala will be held on July 25 at the Denver Botanic Gardens to honor the lives of Javad Marshall-Fields and Vivian Wolfe, and to celebrate over 30 Fields Wolfe Scholars who received educational aid. Commissioner Rhonda Fields will host the event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with doors opening at 4:30 p.m., and awards will be given to figures such as Dr. Al Yates & U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper as proceeds support the scholarship fund.  Sentinel Colorado

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A bipartisan statewide poll found that nearly nine in ten Coloradans rated the rising cost of living as a very serious problem—adding that high housing and health care costs, along with worries about food security and homelessness, compound the issue. The survey also showed that younger women and metro Denver residents voiced strong concerns while about one-third of respondents named government and politics as Colorado’s top issue.  Colorado Public Radio
