ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • More than two years ago in May an HVAC system collapsed at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Aurora, injuring six people including a 13 year old girl and prompting a 48 count lawsuit; experts and affected families say no independent third party investigation has been made public — leaving questions about potential design or maintenance failures.  Denver7

CRIME NEWS

  • Data from ICE released over recent weeks show that nearly all individuals arrested in Colorado and Wyoming between Jan 20 and June 26 have no criminal history, contradicting claims that the agency targets only the worst offenders + those with convictions were mostly for minor offenses such as drunken driving.  Colorado Public Radio

  • An 18-year-old man—identified as Messiah Williams and accused of a double stabbing that left one woman dead and another critically injured—was arrested after deputies found him naked in a field about a mile south of The Madison apartment complex in Castle Pines on Sunday night as investigators questioned witnesses—family members and others—to gather information.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On July 3, Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that new groups of invasive zebra mussels were found in Eagle County and along the Colorado River (from the Roaring Fork north to the Colorado-Utah border), raising concerns over drinking water and native fish. Experts said the mussels are very hard to remove and that the state will continue testing and using treatments to protect local resources.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The University of Colorado spent nearly $500,000 investigating complaints over two regents+ the review led to a censure of Regent Wanda James on July 2 for a conflict of interest linked to her cannabis business and exonerated Chair Callie Rennison amid allegations of receiving full-time pay for part-time work. Law firms from Denver and Colorado Springs conducted the investigations, and additional legal fees may be incurred in July.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver Mayor Mike Johnston gave his State of the City address Monday night—he said homelessness dropped by 45% and violent crime is down, though affordable housing and downtown renewal still need work. He described Denver as the capital of the new West—adding that city leaders plan new policies to boost safety and growth amid ongoing political and economic pressures.  Denver7

  • At Copper Mountain last weekend, thousands of cyclists joined the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour to raise money for Children’s Hospital Colorado.
