- ➤ Aurora police said an unidentified man was critically injured by gunshot while meeting someone in the parking lot of The Residences at First Avenue Apartments on Monday night—he was taken to a nearby hospital and did not live in the complex. Sentinel Colorado
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Jared Polis scrapped his $28.5M pedestrian bridge plan to the Capitol after over 94% of more than 87,000 survey respondents rejected the project—only 3.8% voted in favor. He said the $8M already spent on the project will help shift focus to plans celebrating Colorado’s 150th anniversary next year. Denver7
- ➤ The City of Denver is awarding $11M in grants through the Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids program to help groups feed low-income and at-risk children, and the program has given nearly $100M to local groups that run mobile food pantries+ school meal programs since 2019. - ➤ Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser sued Mesa County deputy Alexander Zwinck for sharing a 19 year old nursing student’s details with federal immigration officials on June 5—a move that broke state law. - ➤ The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment confirmed the season's first West Nile virus cases in two Adams County residents; one reported neurologic symptoms but neither was hospitalized. - ➤ Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains said that Medicaid patients still will not receive care at its clinics after a federal court partially blocked cuts to Medicaid payments while a law signed July 4 took effect immediately. The organization reached out to nearly 1,000 patients and is working with state lawmakers—aiming to let patients pay out of pocket since thousands rely on Medicaid for reproductive and sexual health care.
