ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Passengers slid down an emergency slide after American Airlines Flight 3023 experienced a possible landing gear problem and jet smoke led to an emergency deplaning at Denver International Airport plus firefighters extinguished a fire while one passenger was taken to a hospital as the FAA investigates.  Colorado Public Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Astro Fun World in Westminster closed abruptly on July 7, leaving over two dozen workers unpaid, including 16-year-old Brody Sandoval who expected his final paycheck. Several employees have filed wage complaints with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (a move that could trigger penalties if full wages remain unpaid).  Denver7

CRIME NEWS

  • Denver police are investigating a triple shooting at 20th and Market in LoDo where three people were wounded late Saturday night—one was seriously injured and taken to a hospital while the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries and no arrests have been made.  Denver7
  • An unidentified man was shot and seriously injured in his car at Cherry Ridge apartments in south-Aurora just after midnight Sunday after a brief verbal exchange with unknown individuals+ he was driven to a nearby hospital+ he remains in serious condition.  Sentinel Colorado

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Goodwill of Colorado launched a Clean Tech Accelerator in Aurora that offers a four-week course to train workers to repair EV chargers — the program provides stipends, bus passes and job-placement help after additional certifications. The first cohort, ranging in age from 20 to 50, will graduate on Aug 1 and may earn up to $80K as technicians.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A small fire flared up near the more than 4,000-acre South Rim Fire at Black Canyon National Park on Sunday, forcing the closure of U.S. Highway 50 at Finnegan in Montrose County. Crews from the larger fire were dispatched to help local agencies battle the blaze—firefighters worked to secure the area.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clear Creek County is clamping down on illegal parking near Guanella Pass ahead of leaf-peeping season to keep emergency access clear—drivers who break the rules will face an $87.50 fine. The sheriff's office will add extra patrols and install more signs to prevent traffic gridlock during the busy season.  Denver7
  • The River District proposed that the state water board stay neutral on the Shoshone hydropower plant’s historical water use—letting a water court decide the proper volume at a Sept. hearing, as Front Range water providers voiced concerns. The plan is part of a broader effort to settle a long-standing dispute over key water agreements.  Sentinel Colorado

HEALTH NEWS

  • Colorado voters decriminalized ibogaine in 2022 — state officials are now reviewing its use for treating addiction and easing withdrawal symptoms and cravings in opioid users. Experts note that the psychedelic drug from the iboga shrub may also help with conditions like PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.  Colorado Public Radio
