  • A man was arrested in Commerce City at 9 p.m. Thursday for allegedly pointing a green laser at commercial airplanes near Denver International Airport — officers tracked him from the skies and found he had a felony warrant and charges for DUI on drug use and methamphetamine possession.  Colorado Public Radio

  • A new bipartisan law taking effect on Wednesday aims to ease Colorado's teacher shortage as Denver districts work to fill vacancies before school begins. The law cuts costly testing for new educators and simplifies certification in high-need subjects—steps that could bring more teachers into classrooms.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Xcel Energy said it is ready for trial on Sept. 25 in Boulder County as jury selection begins to determine if its equipment sparked the second ignition of the Marshall Fire. The company maintains its equipment did not start the fire but remains open to settlement talks—its trial is expected to finish in November.  Colorado Public Radio

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Ed Ginsburg opened Harley’s — a hot dog restaurant that serves as a matchmaking venue — where customers fill out a brief questionnaire and have their photo taken to get matched, and he said a few regulars recently met while around 10 people have signed up so far.  Denver7
