ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Denver7 met with two Pitkin County ranchers whose cattle were hurt by a nearby wolf pack and later spoke with CPW director Jeff Davis about the re-release of the Copper Creek Pack that has led to livestock losses. The interview focused on transparency and future management actions—raising questions about decision-making and Gov Polis' role in the program.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Polis declared a state of emergency on Wednesday after the Lee fire more than doubled from 22,000 to 45,000 acres overnight and put Meeker under pre-evacuation orders. Nearly 500 firefighters, 14 aircraft and 15 fire engines battled the blaze — hot, dry winds and low humidity made their work harder.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Between June and April, Denver cameras allowed more than 1,400 immigration-related license plate searches by out-of-town law enforcement agencies before the national search feature was turned off—Mayor Mike Johnston later extended the contract in July despite strong concerns from city council members and privacy advocates. This use of surveillance data raised alarm over privacy rights and the potential for immigration enforcement through local partnerships.  Sentinel Colorado

HEALTH NEWS

  • The fair held at St. Mary Magdalene’s Catholic church on Sunday offered free vaccines, health screenings, and legal advice to Denver residents amid fears of immigration raids (no ICE agents were seen), while organizers reported nearly 700 screenings, 300 vaccines, and over 200 community surveys completed. Organizers stressed that the event aimed to build trust and provide care for immigrants and others in vulnerable situations.  Colorado Public Radio
  • At 93, James 'Dr. Jim' Baroffio reached the one-million-meter mark on his rowing machine at Row House Fitness in Highlands Ranch on Thursday, finishing the distance over two years with the help of his workout group—he credits exercise for helping him recover from open heart surgery. He said staying active makes him feel young.  Denver7
