CRIME NEWS

  • One person was arrested after a stabbing at the University of Denver library on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and officials said the library remains closed while the victim’s condition is unknown.  Denver7
  • A 25-year-old man was shot in the driveway of Bristol Apartments in east Aurora on Friday afternoon—he sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital while police investigate the case.  Sentinel Colorado

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado launched two programs to help adults return to college—Re-Engaged and Finish What You Started—using different funding levels; Re-Engaged awarded over 1,500 associate degrees but only 3% of recipients re-enrolled for a bachelor’s, while the Finish What You Started program, with $49 million in support, helped around 4,700 adults resume their studies. Universities such as MSU Denver have adjusted services for working students, and individuals like Lisa Johnson have registered to continue their education this fall.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife is considering raising the backcountry search-and-rescue surcharge from $0.25 to $1.25—extra funds that could total about $2,500,000 a year—to better support volunteer rescue efforts. The agency is asking for public input before the change takes effect on January 1 if approved at the November meeting.  Denver7
