COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Special Olympics Colorado announced it surpassed its $380,000 goal by raising over $400,000 at its annual plane pull event—teams of 25 pulled a 90,000-pound airplane a dozen feet at Denver International Airport's United Airlines Hangar to benefit more than 25,000 athletes. The event brought community members and sponsors together to support athletes across the state. Denver7
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Lunar Outpost tested its new Lunar Terrain Vehicle prototypes at Diamond Star Ranch near Rye on August 19, where the vehicles with joystick controls impressed local reporters. The company submitted its NASA proposal for the final contract—expected to be worth about $1.72 billion by mid-November and to face stiff competition. Colorado Public Radio
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 153rd Colorado State Fair opened in Pueblo on August 23 and will run through Labor Day. Hundreds of families saw animal shows, carnival rides and food booths — livestock and ranch horse competitions added extra excitement. Colorado Public Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Denver laid off 169 city employees and eliminated 666 vacant positions across several departments to address a budget deficit — DOTI cut 108 positions while the public library, sheriff's department and parks & recreation also saw major reductions. More details will emerge when the mayor delivers the budget on Sept. 15. Denver7
