  • Food Bank of the Rockies is battling rising hunger in Denver due to high living costs and cuts in federal support—losing about 14,000 meals per day. Denver7 is partnering with local groups in the 7 Days to Help End Hunger campaign from Sept.22-28—helping feed neighbors in need.  Denver7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local business owners near Empower Field are preparing for the Broncos' move to Denver’s Burnham Yard by the 2031 season—hoping for more customers while worrying about rising rents, taxes and traffic issues. Owners like those of Shape Plus and Dazbog Coffee shared both their excitement and concerns about the changes coming to the area.  Denver7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jeanette Burkle from the University of Denver Enrichment shares tips to take great photos of fall leaves with a cell phone and advises Denver residents to find the best spot, use grid lines—lock focus and check different lenses—to capture clear pictures during golden hour.  Denver7
  • Evergreen High School is using a phased return as staff work in the building Monday through Wednesday while students come back Thursday and Friday for structured activities after a shooting—classes with half days will begin next week and parents will have an open house and mass violence impact sessions.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Photographers captured nearly peak fall colors on Sept 21 along Corona Pass in Winter Park and on Jones Pass Road through Clear Creek and Grand counties. Visitors are advised to use a (4WD) vehicle on a (steep, unpaved) road for a safe trip.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Colorado is a dangerous lightning state — two missing hunters in Conejos County died after a lightning strike on Sept. 18 and the autopsy will be released in eight to 10 weeks to confirm details.  Denver7
  • Pivot Energy built a home for bees at its Aurora solar garden—where yellow flowers grow among solar panels—to help pollinators and power 1,200 low-income homes. The company works with Flower Street Farm, which cares for 20 bee colonies and said it will add more habitats later.  Denver7
  • South Platte Renew turned wastewater treatment into a renewable energy success by converting methane from wastewater into pipeline-grade natural gas that is injected into Xcel’s pipeline after a $7.8 million project funded by Englewood and Littleton sewer funds. The system—Colorado’s first of its kind—generates revenue from EPA renewable credits and cuts carbon emissions by 3,700 metric tons annually, offsetting 56 million car miles.  Denver7

  • Three Aurora City Council members hosted an in-person gathering Monday at ABC Collective at Paris Elementary School so residents could watch the virtual council meeting and see their leaders face-to-face—this event challenges the shift to online sessions that began after disruptions during protests following Kilyn Lewis's death.  Denver7
  • Lawmakers in Denver now face a new budget crisis as forecasts say that next fiscal year will need $850 million more than available funds to run programs like Medicaid and education. Legislators will need to make tough spending cuts—experts warn that rising costs will force hard choices.  Colorado Public Radio
  • US Senator Michael Bennet shared his plan on Monday to boost affordable housing by proposing a 30% increase in state-supported homes by 2035 while lowering rising construction costs and using private investment. He noted Colorado faces a shortage of 106,000 units—urging a statewide surge in new home building to help families stay in the community.  Denver7
