COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The former Park Hill Golf Course, acquired by the city, will open as Park Hill Park on Oct. 28, though visitors may use the park only during daylight hours for walking and jogging until crews finish maintenance and install lighting — ensuring safe, limited access as renovations continue.  Denver7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Boulder County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation order early Thursday morning after a fire broke out at the Caribou Village Shopping Center, warning residents in areas between Peak to Peak Highway and Peakview Road + those near Hurricane Hill to leave immediately.  Denver7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • APEX Pharmacy in Aurora is seeing a surge in patients after a Walgreens and a Safeway closed, leaving residents with fewer nearby choices for prescriptions. The pharmacy owner said the business will meet the increasing demand — a sign that the community is relying on local stores for essential services.  Denver7
  • Ball Arena will add six local dining options and lower prices on hot dogs and draft beers this season after guest surveys showed the food did not meet expectations—new options include offerings from local restaurants with classic items now reduced to $5 and $10 to better serve fans.  Denver7
  • Raíces Brewing Co.—a hub for the Latino community in Lincoln Park—closed when city officials seized its assets on Wednesday because it owed more than $109,000 in unpaid taxes. The company said it had worked with the city on a payment plan for about a year and blamed unexpected charges for the high bill.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great American Beer Festival started yesterday at the Denver Convention Center and will run through Saturday at 4:30 p.m. A total of 450 brewers, 21 distilleries and representatives from 47 states will offer beer, non-alcoholic beer and spirits — the event is expected to inject $14 million into the local economy.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado has unlocked an extra $12 million from a $56.5 million federal grant to build fast electric vehicle chargers along highways after a previous funding block, with Gov. Jared Polis saying the boost will help drivers take longer road trips. The funding will support the ongoing effort to expand a statewide network of charging stations—critical for an increasing number of battery-powered vehicles.  Colorado Public Radio

  • Colorado voters can get a mail ballot starting today and use local Vote Centers from Oct. 27 to cast their vote if needed — the FAQ explains how to check voter registration, track ballots with BallotTrax, and fix any signature issues before Nov. 12.   • Voters will decide on Proposition MM that will raise taxes on Coloradans earning more than $300k to add $95 million per year for the Healthy School Meals for All program, which gives free meals to K-12 students.   • Aurora Congressperson Jason Crow is hosting a Veterans Resource Fair today at the Colorado Freedom Memorial in Aurora from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—more than 20 veteran organizations will offer services ranging from healthcare to education for veterans and their families.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Colorado will hold a Coordinated Election on Tuesday, November 4, with voters using mail ballots to choose measures for Healthy School Meals for All that affect school meals and food aid.
