  • A fire at the Caribou Village Shopping Center destroyed over 30% of local businesses last week—neighbors and volunteers launched a GoFundMe that raised nearly $200,000 to help 18 businesses and 100 workers. Officials from several agencies are investigating to determine the cause of the fire.  Denver7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Denver sports teams are fueling urban redevelopment by planning new stadiums and mixed-use entertainment districts along the South Platte River and I-25—developers are adding housing and transit improvements to boost growth while keeping community needs in mind.  Denver7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Aurora Public Schools has partnered with CU Denver to guarantee conditional admission and waive fees for eligible Aurora Central students who meet a 3.0 GPA requirement—about 900 seniors will benefit from financial aid advising and merit-based scholarships. Becky Palacios Romero, a current student, visited on Oct. 09 to share her experience and help ease the stress of the college application process.  Sentinel Colorado

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, CU Athletics rolled out new security measures at Folsom Field after fan chanting of religious slurs at a BYU game led to a $50,000 fine from the Big 12 Conference. The changes include more security staff and undercover police officers positioned in the student section—steps taken to quickly remove disruptive fans.  Denver7
