COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Colorado group called BikerDown—a Lakewood nonprofit—helps injured motorcyclists and their families as fatalities rise with 61 deaths reported so far this year. Founder Laurie Montoya started the organization in 2011 after friends were hurt and now it offers financial guidance, equipment loans and emotional support while urging riders to wear helmets and get proper insurance.  Colorado Public Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • Matthew Silverstone, the 18-year-old second victim in the Evergreen High School shooting on Sept. 10, left CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital after weeks in intensive care and now walks with help plus can speak as he starts a long rehabilitation.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado authors whose works were used by Anthropic (an AI company) have been offered about $3,000 per title in a $1.5 billion settlement, though some say the payout is too low. Writer Scott Carney is urging further legal action to seek larger damages for what he calls copyright theft.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Aurora History Museum and Cultural Services are asking for community input through surveys to help shape a new exhibit on the Filipino community in the award-winning Mosaic of Cultures series. A community panel already selected the Filipino-American Colorado Community as the exhibit partner—community members can now share ideas to also influence a commemorative sculpture for upcoming state and federal anniversaries.  Sentinel Colorado

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tech companies are building data centers across the Mountain West to power artificial intelligence and raise concerns about energy, water use, and pollution. A new campus began construction on Sept. 5 in Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood—residents worry about higher utility costs and worsening air quality.  Colorado Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Crews at Keystone, A-Basin and Loveland fired up their snow guns on October 13 to make snow for the ski season—using digital monitors to check the needed temperature. They expect this work to help open the slopes in late October to early November.  Colorado Public Radio
