COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wild Bear Nature Center in Nederland lost its facility and several ambassador animals in a fire that burned over a dozen downtown businesses earlier this month—now the center has launched a recovery campaign to raise $150,000 to rebuild its indoor childcare space. It plans to open a new facility in fall 2026.  Denver7
  • Denver7 Investigates reported that a staffing shortage on Monday at Camp Bow Wow—located at 8121 S. Grant Way—led to customers being asked to pick up their dogs early amid repeated PACFA violations that cited inadequate supervision and unsafe facilities; one dog owner said she was frustrated and a former employee quit over the concerns.  Denver7
  • Colorado Search and Rescue statewide coordinators work with local sheriff's offices to respond to backcountry emergencies, coordinating volunteer efforts across all 64 counties. The coordinators—available 24/7—rapidly set plans and communicate with neighboring teams to secure needed resources.  Denver7
  • Denver native Adam Mizel co-founded US United, a non-partisan group that helps Americans step out of their bubbles and ask questions of those with different views. The organization offers an online Unity Pledge plus monthly video calls and plans a National Unity Day on December 13 to bring people together.  Colorado Public Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sugar Cube Coffee Shop in Wheat Ridge said that construction along Wadsworth Boulevard is making it hard for customers to find its drive-thru — many drivers go to nearby Dutch Brothers after missing the new entrance. The city said the project started in November 2021 and will be completed in spring 2026.  Denver7

  • Denver resident Shadawn Shuler said she was scammed by a company calling itself Echo Shipping LLC after she was tricked into shipping over 20 high-value packages for a remote job offer promising $4,300 a month—she did not receive any payment after being locked out of the online system.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sundance Film Festival will honor Robert Redford’s legacy with special legacy screenings and tributes, as the 2026 event runs from January 22 to February 1 and marks the final edition in Park City before moving to Boulder in 2027—ticket sales begin today at noon Eastern.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coloradans worry they could lose affordable health care if Congress does not renew ACA tax credits amid the continuing shutdown, forcing many to face steep premium hikes and hard choices. State officials say rates in some rural areas may jump up to 170%—creating serious financial strain for households.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Disability Law Colorado made public a report on dangerous conditions at Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center in Cañon City based on years of monitoring visits, interviews with nearly 50 kids, and feedback from families and staff. The report calls for reducing excessive restraint and seclusion and urges state agencies to work with the center to improve care — aiming to protect children’s safety and mental well-being.  Denver7

  • Former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson posted a tweet on Tuesday calling coach Sean Payton 'classless' after Payton made remarks following Denver's win over the Giants (referencing claims of media bounty hunting that trace back over 15 years).
