Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 26th of October.
Good morning, Denver.
🏘️ Community
Almost Home, an Adams County nonprofit serving unhoused people in north metro Denver, held its first Spooky Sprint 5K race Saturday at Margaret Carpenter Park to raise funds after federal TANF cuts led to a $2M shortfall and a 25% reduction in services.
The race raised about $12,000 to support programs for two families—local officials are working on long-term solutions to restore support.
🎓 Education
State education data shows that about 380 Colorado schools may lose free meal funding if Nov.
4 ballot measures MM and LL fail (schools not in the federal Community Eligibility Provision would face changes). The program expanded last school year and, without extra funding, these schools might require families to pay or apply for meals.
🏈 Sports
Arapahoe Basin begins its 2025/26 winter season today at 8:30 a.m.—lifts run until 4 p.m. The resort will add terrain as conditions allow—live music and donut giveaways are planned to welcome guests.
