COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Events this week will honor the 1955 United Flight 629 bombing that killed 44 people when a bomb planted in a suitcase exploded minutes after takeoff. Denver City Council declared November 1 as United Flight 629 Victims Memorial Day—families and first responders will gather for a memorial dedication at 11 a.m. at FlyteCo Tower.  Denver7
  • Former federal worker Katie West lost her job in July and hiked the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango over 39 days to prove she could overcome hardship — her nearly 500-mile trek challenged her with severe weather and isolation. Now unemployed, she fills her days with odd jobs in Boulder and volunteering at a food bank, saying her journey helped rebuild her sense of direction.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials opened Denver’s newest Park Hill Park Tuesday at East 35th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, and neighbors shared mixed views on its current state. • Colorado Head Start programs that serve nearly 1,300 low income children risk losing key services as a scheduled federal deposit on Nov. 1 is blocked by the government shutdown, and four centers plan to use temporary funds to stay open—though a prolonged delay may force cuts in meals and early learning support.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health insurance premiums for Coloradans using Connect for Health Colorado will increase by 101% in 2026, nearly doubling costs and pushing thousands to switch plans (a family of four in Denver may face a $14,000 rise). SPORTS NEWS

  • Denny Schaedig—an avid backcountry skier and researcher—collected thousands of snow samples at Loveland Pass to build an AI model that predicts avalanche risk, a project started as part of his master’s capstone at Colorado State University Global.
