COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new granite memorial will be unveiled Saturday at the base of the former control tower in Central Park to honor all 44 victims of United Flight 629's 1955 explosion. The marker is engraved with airplane parts — a tribute near FBI headquarters and United’s training center that will bring together families like Susan Morgan's.  Colorado Public Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Winter Park Resort announced its new Reserve Pass at a $2,499 price that gives buyers priority access to several lifts and reserved, covered parking—designed for vacationers planning a premium week-long experience. The limited pass offers early-up access starting at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends with priority line access beginning Dec. 15—targeting visitors from outside the Denver area.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Denver Film Festival is back today and will run until Nov. 9, featuring special guests like Lucy Liu and John Elway. Artistic Director Matthew Campbell highlighted the world premiere of the film Elway at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Ellie Caulkins Opera House — he also recommended other films with Colorado connections.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Aurora Public Schools held the third annual Pumpkin Chunkin contest at Vista PEAK Preparatory on Oct. 30, 2025 where engineering and construction students launched pumpkins with custom-built trebuchets. One team’s design — named Jessica — earned top marks after careful testing and support from local industry partners.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Colorado Head Start programs, which serve 11,000 low-income children, may lose federal funding soon amid the shutdown—four programs will run out of funding on Nov 1 and six more on Dec 1; local agencies have arranged temporary fixes but no long-term plan is in place.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Collins contractor Nicole Kernohan said that the federal shutdown has caused pay delays and layoffs in her company contracted with the USDA—workers are not receiving back pay and farmers are affected as payments for completed work are delayed. The shutdown, now in its 30th day, has intensified financial pressure on contractors following earlier layoffs from reduced contract scopes.  Denver7
