Good morning, Denver. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 15th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new shelter for people experiencing homelessness opens Monday near the Aurora and Denver border in a large, warehouse-like space that will house up to 640 guests with 286 cots. Advance Pathways, a Denver-based nonprofit, will run the facility—offering separate male and female areas, job training, and support services to help guests get back on their feet.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver food pantries are still busy as demand remains high after SNAP benefits returned following a delay that raised numbers by 45%. Local food banks are using extra funds and new holiday plans + partnerships to keep food supplies steady for those in need.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Denver hikers can challenge themselves on the Eldorado Canyon Trail at Eldorado Canyon State Park between Golden and Boulder, where the trail climbs more than 1,900 feet with rocky paths and switchbacks. The park offers picnic areas and historic ruins (such as old hotel remains) for a full day of outdoor adventure.  Denver7
  • Denver has seen little snow so far this season and experts warn that warm, dry conditions have kept Colorado's snowpack below average, though a shift in weather patterns may bring winter storms next week—prompting the Department of Transportation to close Independence Pass from Saturday until at least Tuesday—ensuring safety for drivers amid changing conditions.   Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Denver City Council approved a new $4.7 million contract to keep The Salvation Army Crossroads Shelter at its current location until the end of 2026, which will fund essential repairs and improvements. Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 — a temporary shelter will be set up during construction to ensure continuous services.  Denver7
