CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Colorado author Devon O’Neil published his book The Way Out: A True Story of Survival in the Heart of the Rockies on Nov. 11—his work tells the story of a 2017 backcountry ski trip in the Sawatch Range where skiers were stranded by harsh weather and explores the lasting impact of grief. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday marked the school’s first full day back in the Aurora 'Justice Engaged' building after a fire damaged supplies and displaced students. The program, serving youth with justice involvement, resumed classes as staff and students returned plus investigators continue to determine the fire's cause. Denver7
- ➤ Denver high school counselors will lose access to a state tool that shows student FAFSA progress—an important resource that helps target students who need help filling out forms. The change will take effect in 2026, forcing groups like the Denver Scholarship Foundation to reach out individually to students and quadruple their work. Sentinel Colorado
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Denver Sheriff's Department established a veteran housing unit at Downtown Detention Center that helps veterans reintegrate into the community — a secure space for personal growth. The unit, opened in May and housing up to 64 veterans (excluding those charged with serious crimes), has already released four and offers added freedoms and community partner support — including job training and treatment programs for PTSD and substance abuse. - ➤ On Saturday, November 22, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will host Operation Freebird in partnership with Mountain States Toyota, Waste Management, and Food Bank of the Rockies—an event that will offer food boxes, turkey vouchers, and free health screenings. Attendees can arrive on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mountain States Toyota at 201 W. 70th Avenue. Denver7
- ➤ City officials in Littleton extended a temporary pause on new gas station development by 180 days to curb emissions and support a shift toward cleaner transportation. The council will meet with staff in January—focusing on code changes to address market competitiveness and rising electric vehicle adoption. Denver7
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ CU College of Nursing did a study that produced a Spanish telenovela series called Viviendo Positivos— designed to help Hispanic and Latino residents manage HIV by sharing real-life experiences, including those of Kiko who lives with the disease. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Denver's former Denver7 headquarters at 123 Speer Boulevard was taken down piece by piece since early September, leaving only rubble from the 1960s brutalist building that housed the network for over 50 years. Denver7 left the site last summer when it moved to a new location north of Coors Field — cost concerns led to the chosen method. Denver7
