COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Colorado nonprofits are offering Thanksgiving volunteering and community service opportunities statewide, with options such as preparing meals with Lasagna Love and donating turkeys to the Denver Rescue Mission. Today, volunteers in Pueblo, Alamosa and Colorado Springs can take part in a Turkey to Work Day — and others can help by donating food, blood, coats and toys.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Director Max Walker-Silverman made his film Rebuilding in the San Luis Valley about a cowboy who lost his family ranch to wildfire—he believes movies should be shot where their stories happen. The film will screen at select theaters including Highlands Ranch 24 on November 28—details on additional showtimes will follow.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Denver listeners voted in Round 3 of CPR Classical's Carol Countdown contest and 'White Christmas' was eliminated while 'It Came Upon the Midnight Clear', 'O Holy Night', and 'Carol of the Bells' advanced into a head-to-head matchup. Voting remains open until midnight on Nov 24—winners will be announced on Nov 27 and the final competition will air on Dec 9 at 7 a.m.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Ball Arena, fans are playing the third season of Recyclaw by recycling aluminum cups and cans to win game-day gear and help the environment. Michael Kelley from Ball Corporation said about 24,000 fans have participated — the event is part of season-long efforts that also include eco-friendly challenges.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arapahoe County commissioners approved a three-tiered incentive program to motivate developers to set aside 10%—25% or 50% of units for affordable rents, aiming to ease a 14,000-unit shortage for renters. The county expects the new regulations to attract projects that add urgently needed affordable housing.  Denver7
  • Colorado nonprofits face a new challenge as drops in federal funds force groups like Phamaly Theatre to cut jobs and shows. Leaders say the loss of steady government aid—once a key source—means organizations must find new funding to keep services running.  Colorado Public Radio
