COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Denver has seen zero cold-weather deaths so far this year, the Rocky Mountain Human Services said. Local nonprofits — including the St. Francis Center — are preparing to distribute winter coats, boots and other essentials as temperatures drop.  Denver7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • State Sen. Faith Winter, a mother of two and the chair of the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee, died in a five-vehicle crash around 6 p.m. on I-25 near Dry Creek Road south of Denver—three others were injured and investigators are looking into the cause.  Sentinel Colorado

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After years of waiting for approval, Cirrus Social Club opened on E. Colfax Ave and now lets people use cannabis in a lounge setting — the club welcomed about 15,000 guests in its first seven months. Founder Arend Richard said it took three years to open due to a long permit process — including two public hearings where neighbors could share concerns.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mirada Fine Art Gallery, which began in Indian Hills and moved downtown in 2020, announced it will close by December 28 after 16 years of service in Denver. Owner Steve Sonnen said the family-run gallery planned the bittersweet end and will host rotating closeout sales in its final months—marking a significant change for the local art scene.  Denver7
  • Indie 102.3 is asking its listeners to vote on their top 10 songs of 2025—ballots are due by December 17th at noon MST to enter a drawing for 4-pack tickets to see Echo and The Bunnymen at Mission ballroom on May 22nd, 2026. The top songs will be announced on New Year's Eve and replayed on New Year's Day.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Author and minister Nancy Niero released Witness at Sand Creek that revives the letters of Capt. Silas Soule, the soldier who refused to fire on Cheyenne and Arapaho families during the Sand Creek Massacre—she uses his preserved letters to explore moral courage and moments of historical conscience. A candlelight vigil to commemorate the massacre will be held tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Denver Public Library’s Central Library.  Colorado Public Radio

  • Colorado families have faced hardship after the government shutdown delayed SNAP benefits and led to a 60% surge in requests at the Food Bank of the Rockies—over 2,000 families attended a record-setting distribution event. Local agencies and community groups continue to offer emergency food support—resources remain tight as wages struggle to keep up with living costs.  Denver7

HEALTH NEWS

  • A grandmother in Castle Rock is making a cookbook called A Life Well Fed with recipes from famous chefs like Emeril Lagasse and Ina Garten to honor those with Alzheimer’s. She said she is working to have it ready by post-holiday + funds from sales will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Denver7
