ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Dozens of vehicles were involved in two pileups on Interstate 70 in western Colorado on November 30 with no injuries reported—state patrol sergeant Ivan Alvarado urged drivers to slow down, check their tires and supplies, and drive carefully on icy roads—to avoid further accidents during winter storms.  Colorado Public Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Charly Darnell fought AutoSavvy after buying a salvage-title SUV with hidden damage and won a $313k arbitration award after years of legal battle; a judge upheld the ruling after AutoSavvy argued bias and the dealership paid last month. Darnell said she is speaking out to warn other car buyers about the risks of deceptive repair practices.  Denver7
  • Adventurist Backpack in Denver donates 25 meals for every bag sold to help families with food insecurity. The co-founders—Matilda Sandstrom and Kelly Belknap—started the company after witnessing hardships abroad and have provided 450,000 meals so far.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The documentary 'Come See Me in the Good Light' tells the story of Colorado’s late poet laureate Andrea Gibson, who was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and died on July 14 while sharing their journey with wife Megan Falley; it streams on Apple TV. Comedian Tig Notaro, a co-producer on the film, said Gibson’s honest humor and bold art continue to inspire viewers — a sign of their lasting creative spirit.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angie Paccione is leaving her role as executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education after seven years—she will return to the private sector as her last day is Jan 9, 2026. Gov. Polis said she helped more Colorado students get affordable training and work experience, and a new head will be named before she departs.  Colorado Public Radio
  • At Holly Creek Retirement Community, 19-year-old Gio Perez turned a volunteer role into a paid job through Littleton Public Schools’ Transition Services program that helps students with disabilities gain work and life skills. The program pairs students with real-world job opportunities and offers job coaches—supporting their drive for independence.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Denver International Airport has used 230 acres of solar panels to produce about 50 megawatts of on-site power for nearly 20 years—most panels are located away from passenger view. This fall, the airport signed an agreement with Oak Leaf Solar 60 LLC that will add an 18-megawatt array to help meet growing energy needs.  Denver7

  • Colorado state agencies are trying skills-based hiring that values work experience over a college degree after Gov. Polis issued an order in 2022, and workers like Cherri McKinney now get new job chances—based on practical skills rather than paper qualifications. Local schools and job fairs help train applicants and educate employers, while early data shows few hires without degrees have been made so far.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Tista Ghosh, who was a top health official in Colorado and advised big companies during the pandemic, wrote a book about what she learned and now shares health tips on Instagram. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Denver’s historic downtown YMCA will close on Dec. 30 after nearly 150 years to be sold to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless for conversion into affordable housing units scheduled to open in 2027. The 45,000 square-foot building will retain key historic features + current members are offered transfers to other metro locations.  Denver7
