Good morning, Denver. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 4th of December.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warns Denver shoppers to be cautious this holiday season as false premiumization scams trick consumers with deals that fail to deliver promised quality (victims report losses and challenging return policies). Researching sellers and reading return terms is advised.  Denver7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Metropolitan Opera will begin its Saturday Matinee Broadcast Season on Dec. 6 on CPR Classical, airing classic operas and new works including Gabriela Lena Frank’s debut opera — with live and encore broadcasts running through May 30 for listeners across Colorado.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Jim Stevens, a Vietnam veteran and director of Denver’s Veterans Arts Council who lost most of his sight after a stroke, displays artwork at the Denver Art Museum as part of Beyond the Military: From Combat to Canvas — an exhibition featuring veteran artists that runs through February.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Move Through Yoga expanded its adaptive yoga program to 31 Denver Public Schools with a grant from Rocky Mountain Human Services and will reach additional elementary schools if all goes well, supporting educators with specialized training. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aurora teens, including 15-year-old Sarah Padilla Zepeda, addressed the city council on Nov. 17 to call for tougher vaping rules to protect younger students. They urged tighter licensing for tobacco retailers + more compliance inspections to reduce teen vape access.  Sentinel Colorado
  • RTD reported drug use reports dropped from 2,124 in 2024 to 707 through October as security upgrades and increased police presence on transit vehicles have made rides safer. The measures include enhanced station security at Union Station (a key transit hub) and a pilot program keeping elevator doors open.  Denver7
  • After Wednesday’s storm, drivers on I-70 struggled with tire chains as a new law to let companies sell chain permits remains unimplemented (CDOT has yet to confirm any permit applications), leaving towing experts urging for immediate action.  Denver7
  • The state’s wildlife official, Jeff Davis (former CPW director), resigned late last month to avoid being fired after overseeing the controversial wolf reintroduction program. Acting director Major General Laura Clellan now leads CPW while the search for a permanent replacement begins.  Denver7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Winter storms are kickstarting a slow ski season at Colorado resorts. Fresh snow is expected to accumulate 1 to 4 inches over the next few days, and resorts like Powderhorn (Dec. 5) and Telluride (Dec. 6) will soon welcome skiers as forecasts predict heavier snowfall by Christmas week.  Colorado Public Radio
