COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Colorado nonprofits received $56.5 million on Colorado Gives Day — local groups like Metro Caring still face strain from reduced federal support as cuts force organizations to stretch resources to meet community needs.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Polis proposed a plan on Dec. 10 at the CSU Spur campus to merge the state’s higher education and workforce programs into a new department to boost efficiency and improve learner outcomes. Lawmakers will file a bill in the upcoming legislative session to complete the changes by the next governor in 2027.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Four measures for the proposed NWSL stadium moved out of committee on Wednesday to city council. The council will have a first reading on Monday, Dec. 15 with a second reading set for Dec. 22 — officials seek to address earlier delays.  Denver7
  • Gov. Jared Polis’ office proposed a new agency called the Colorado Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development to merge key state functions and tackle a growing talent gap. The plan, based on a report and surveys from over 800 residents, may start on July 1 (if approved by lawmakers).  Colorado Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Keystone Resort opened on Oct. 25 using state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment and a 34-person crew who battled warm, dry conditions (around 28°F) to produce manmade snow, making it the first ski area in North America to open this season.  Colorado Public Radio
