COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Denver Animal Shelter says that over 100 families picked up pet food during the government shutdown, helping keep pets with their families. The shelter now offers free vaccinations + spay and neuter services and asks for community support as it faces city budget cuts.  Denver7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Colorado farmers growing corn, wheat & sorghum are eligible for a one-time payment of up to $155,000 from USDA’s $12 billion Farmer Bridge Assistance Program; eligible farmers must submit applications by Dec. 19 and expect funds to be dispersed by the end of February.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Children enjoyed storytime at Denver Public Library’s Central Branch on Nov. 16 when Colorado author Ingrid Law read her new picture book, You Are Not Alone. She explained that caring for her mother helped inspire the book’s message of light and connection.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Denver’s DOTI (Department of Transportation Infrastructure) has revised its Alameda Avenue safety plan after public advocates criticized its decision to change a lane reduction approach. The new plan keeps two eastbound lanes while creating turn pockets westbound, leaving some community members questioning DOTI’s trust.  Denver7
  • State regulators postponed approval for 32 oil and gas wells near Aurora Reservoir after nearly 900 public comments raised health and environmental concerns. Civitas must now submit a revised plan — proposing a safer well pad location away from homes — with updates expected in the coming weeks.  Sentinel Colorado
  • Jefferson County plans to update its Wildfire Resiliency Code to meet state standards by expanding WUI boundaries past the mountains and tightening fire-safe building rules for new construction; it will host a community meeting Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Hearing Room One in Golden to review the proposals.  Denver7
