COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Camp Bow Wow Littleton (8121 S. Grant Way) had repeated animal care violations and a dog died in its care earlier this year; the facility will change ownership by year's end to improve care and staffing.  Denver7
  • Becky Barker turned her grief into a mobile bookstore that brings romance novels to towns in Northern Colorado. Running Rescued by Romance, her light purple bus makes stops at local coffee shops and parks to offer books with community events, and she plans to open a brick-and-mortar store next year.  Colorado Public Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warned Denver homeowners to beware of storm chaser scams that pressure for immediate payments for home repairs after recent severe wind damage. Residents are urged to verify company credentials and check online reviews before proceeding with repairs.  Denver7
  • ArtFair Apparel, a local company started in summer 2024, sells limited-edition T-shirts featuring artwork by local artists and prints them at Lab Seven. The business gives 10% of each sale to the artists and donates 10% of its profits to nonprofits chosen by them.  Denver7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wastewater heat recovery system at the National Western Center now heats and cools classrooms, an equestrian center, and a veterinary hospital. Denver developers use the sewage’s constant 70°F temperature to transfer energy and cut grid use — a sustainable reuse of an existing resource.  Sentinel Colorado

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, hurricane-force winds caused power outages statewide, and in Boulder, NIST’s atomic clock lagged by four microseconds after its power failed until a backup generator kicked in (Rebecca Jacobson confirmed the disruption affected GPS and lab time services).  Denver7
  • Denver City Council approved a $50 million investment to support a 14,500-seat professional women’s soccer stadium at Santa Fe Yards. The project will see the city spend $70 million initially while Denver Summit FC plans to invest $150—200 million to complete the venue.  Denver7
  • An immigration judge ruled that Jeanette Vizguerra can post a $5,000 bond for release after nine months in detention + her family and a nonprofit are working to post the bond with a hearing set later this month in immigration court.  Denver7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu hospitalizations and a recorded pediatric death show that this season is hitting Colorado hard, and local clinics report a surge in cases while at-home rapid tests and a nasal spray vaccine help residents protect themselves.  Colorado Public Radio
