Broncos

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton is the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October

The NFL announced Thursday that Singleton won the award after he led the league in tackles. His total was 15 higher than the next closest player's. He's the fifth Broncos linebacker to win it, and the first Broncos defender to win it since Pat Surtain II in November 2024.

68tackles in Weeks 4-8, most in the NFL

He added five tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and two sacks in those five games.

The timing is personal. Denver7 notes the honor comes almost exactly a year after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He's cancer-free now, and the Broncos sit in first place in the AFC West.

Singleton went from a cancer diagnosis to an AFC honor in a year

  1. Oct. 2025In late October, a routine NFL drug test flags elevated HCG; tests confirm testicular cancer.
  2. Nov. 2025Singleton is diagnosed around Nov. 3, then plays the Raiders days later.
  3. Nov. 2025Singleton has successful surgery; the cancer had not spread.
  4. Nov. 5The NFL names Singleton AFC Defensive Player of the Month.

  • Earlier honor: AFC Defensive Player of the Week after a 19-tackle game
  • Since at least 2000: third player with 100 tackles through eight games
  • Mahomes sack: set up a missed field goal in 28-24 win
